On Wednesday 7 November, in Mykolayiv, on the main square of the city, two demonstrations were held — one in front of the Oblast State Administration, another in front of the Mayor's Office. Supporters of the Party of Regions gathered in front of Mykolayiv OSA to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the party. On the other side of the square, representatives of the oppositional parties, together with civic activists, were demanding resignation of the Governor of Mykolayiv Oblast Mykola Kruhlov and Head of the DMIA of Ukraine in Mykolayiv Oblast Valentyn Parseniuk. The event was held under the title “Save Ukraine. Start with Pervomaisk.”
It is worth mentioning that at the demonstration organised by the PR, there was neither Mykola Kruhlov — Head of Mykolayiv Oblast Branch of the Party of Regions, nor Volodymyr Koreniuhin — Head of Mykolayiv Ciry Organisation of the PR.
Before the protesters, former Deputy of Mykolayiv Oblast Council Olena Omelchenko, Deputy of Mykolayiv City Council Ihor Kopieika, and newly elected Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada in district No.128 Artem Ilyuk and district No.129 Mykola Zhuk spoke in turn. The result of the demonstration was the adoption — by almost absolute majority of those present — of a resolution in support of the Governor Mykola Kruhlov, which will be forwarded to President Yanukovych.
At the demonstration in front of Mykolayiv City Council, organisers of the demonstration demanded to dismiss Governor Kruhlov and General Officer Parseniuk from offices held in Pervomaisk Before those present, representatives of the Democratic Alliance Yevheniia Mateichuk and Denys Plishko, leader of Mykolayiv opposition Vadym Merikov, candidate for People's Deputy of the opposition in the electoral district No.130 Ihor Brynchenko, and witnesses of the events in the DEC No.132 spoke.
At this demonstration, a resolution was also adopted, which will be forwarded to the President of Ukraine but with a demand to punish those guilty for the disorder on Pervomaisk.
Civic monitoring conducted by OPORA - is a type of network activity, aimed at impartial assessment of the preparation and conduct of elections, as well as preventing violations through comprehensive civic action. Professional monitoring at all stages of the election process indirectly influences the quality of the campaign. The public opinion, both foreign and domestic is formed through gathering and spreading of information among the target audience. From a strategic perspective public monitoring of elections focuses upon improving the system and certain procedures. In 2012, during Parliamentary elections in Ukraine OPORA is carrying out a large-scale campaign of long- and short term observation, organizing a statistical vote-count by the results of voting with the proportional component of the electoral system on a basis of representative selection, will provide 100% coverage of polling stations by observers in separate single-mandate majoritarian districts. OPORA observers will work in all 225 electoral districts, and 3,500 activists will join them on the voting day. Organization will use the latest means of spreading information on observation results, including infographics and interactive maps.
